One of the hens has decided to build a nest -- in the middle of a large drainage ditch. We haven't had enough rain to flood the ditch, but it remains to be seen if the eggs will hatch. I saw her walking around foraging yesterday looking distinctly piqued and bedraggled.

Aww nice pictures, thanks for sharing-you seem to of caught the moon too in the last shot, well done:)
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. How cool to have those birds passing through all the time!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures.... the guineas are such friendly birds... and helpful too!! ~bangchik
ReplyDeleteYou have a lot of ticks? I hear that's what they eat.
ReplyDeleteGreat collection of pictures. The Monarch is a great shot.
Great photos of all the critters. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYes the Autumncolors are lovely together with purple. Callicarpa bodinieri var. giraldii 'Profusion' is growing here too and I just love the little 'pearls'.
ReplyDeleteBirgitta
Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteYour Guineas are still fascinating, I looked up the name in Swedish last time, it "pearl hens", I never seen them before but I did know they excisted. I find them cute, with all those small spots, or pearls then. Your butterflies are as stunning as ever :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the photos of the guineas. We are only used to chickens roaming around.
ReplyDeleteThe butterfly on the the Buddleiea is so beautiful.
Those birds look so funny! And the cat is just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHi SB~~ I have to say I really adore the first of the "orange and purple" garden photos. What a sweetie pie!! The coloring on the guineas' feathers is masterful. Ditto on the Monarch. And the last photo just emmanates calm serenity. Nice, nice!
ReplyDeleteSweet b.
ReplyDeleteSo these birds traipse through your yard and let you take photos? That is special. When I first saw the cat, I thought perhaps the story would be about a hunt. Glad it wasn't. It would be sad to see one of those birds get chomped on. Love those butterfly photos and your beauty berries. Your horses look content.
Rosey
Hi Sweetbay, what funny looking birds those Guineas are. Great photos of them. Hope the nest makes it in spite of being in the ditch.
ReplyDeleteYour monarch photos are super!!!

I love how those birds have polka dots!
ReplyDeleteThe kitty in the flowers is my favorite picture!
Thanks for your comments everyone!
ReplyDeleteb13 I think I've read that too. No ticks now, but plenty of seeds, grasshoppers and crickets around.
Mia I love the name Pearl Hen. That's perfect!
Rosey these birds came from the neighbor's farm. Not sure what they're doing down here, and I think they may return to the neighbor's farm at night except for the brooding hen. In any case they cover a lot of territory every day. The guineas are too big for Tommy to hunt. They might just fly or they might beat his butt. Either way he's not going to take the chance. lol
Oh those guineas are so cool in the garden-but not early in the morning. Great purple/orange combo!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info on the bidens. I'll look for them whenever you get the chance. Thanks.
I'd like those guinea fowl to wander through my garden. They might eat the pill bugs and snails that came with the rain. We have wild turkeys but they closest they got was to jumping up onto the wall. I fear they would make a mess if they got in here.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pastoral scene. Lovely.
Wonderful critters all... especially love the horses under the moon! Lovely! Lovely Photo! I am asking this question lately ... do you have a sports mode on your camera? Carol
ReplyDeleteIt's cool that you have guineas and horses. The monarchs and your cat do make nice combinations with the purples.
ReplyDeleteThe guineas have beautiful feathers. You are very lucky to have such diversity. Enjoy! :)
ReplyDeleteThe detailing in your photography is amazing. The picture of the butterfly is stunning.
ReplyDeleteSuch peaceful scenes, Sweet Bay! I do like the orange and purple combinations. I know I won't find a Monarch in my garden any more this year, but I often have one of the other combos:)
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of the pasture and the horses! The guinea hens are so unique. I haven't seen any in the wild here. -Jackie
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty pictures! I hope the poor guinea hen gets her eggs hatched before any flooding. Beautiful pictures of the horses!
ReplyDeleteI like that you know your critters so well. Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteSp wonderful and animalistic!
ReplyDeleteAll of your photos are great, well captured. the butterfly is so beautiful..

Your horses and the waxing harvest moon make for such a peaceful photo. And you know I just luv your orange kitty with the purple berries (can't remember the name). Your guineas are a lot smarter than our turkeys. Our turkeys never pick up the litter, they walk right on by.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely nature you got around you!!And beautiful horses. It´s a great picture with the moon in the sky. Orange and purple together is such a wonderful combination.I love it too! You show it in a humoristic way with your lovely cat and butterflies:-))))in the middle of lilac berries and flowers. Have a nice week and take care!/Karin
ReplyDeleteNot the smartest and not the loveliest of birds...but interesting. Every once in a while I see a wild one who has wandered away from home.
ReplyDeleteMarnie
Thank you for your comments and kind words.
ReplyDeleteSports mode. Hmmm. lol I'll have to look in the manual! (I really do need to look in the manual.)
Love purple and orange. He/she looks just like my Chester!
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures of the birds.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting array of critters for camera critters. I especially like the orange and purple combinations.
ReplyDeleteAll of your critters are lovely but the horses and the moon is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSherry
Oh, I love the birds. It must be so great to have them on your property. Your orange cat looks just like my Rusty. It seems like Phillip & I have the same idea.

Always Growing
i hope the eggs hatch before a strong rain arrives:)... and you took great shot of the moanrch butterfly... i guess, like the guineas, they're trying to eat as much as they can before winter comes..
ReplyDeleteand your photo of the waxing moon and horses is so BEAUTIFUL, so peaceful... with a view like this, i will be like your cat --- have a nice relaxing nap before dinner:)...
as for sports mode for the camera, i should also have to give it a try :)...
Beautiful beautiful photos. I love listening to guineas as they roost in the trees at night.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful pictures...all of them! How wonderful to have the guineas coming in like that?! The cat and beautyberries, the monarch on the Butterfly Bush...great shots. The last photo is my favourite!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing that guinea is not up here - she'd drown for sure.
ReplyDeleteLove your Monarch butterfly picture - it's so lovely and delicate.
