I started some Cassia alata seeds this year, and after putting them in the garden they have been a favored chow for caterpillars. The plants are still budding, and if they don't bloom it won't be the fault of the caterpillars, but mine for getting them started too late.

Amazing photos! Mr. Fuzzy Caterpillar is so cute :)
ReplyDeleteI think you are correct on the Virgin Tiger Moth caterpillar. Sure would like to know the others. Fabulous close ups. Those monarchs have been so fun to photograph lately. They just seem to sit and rest in the garden. I've never seen so many. You got some great shots.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos for camera critters, the The Green Lynx spider is cool. The monarchs are wonderful. Thanks for sharing your critters.
ReplyDeleteI must remember this series as I coat my branches with dish soap??
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos! Even the caterpillars look great! My favorite is the Monarch butterflies on the Buddleiea. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI googled the Green Lynx Spider. So it's partial to moths right?
ReplyDeleteNow I maybe at or near the top of the food chain, but spiders freak me out a bit. Beautiful colour all the same and a nice shot!
ALL of these shots are outstanding! Fantastic post!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great, ahem... even the spider. ( I have arachnophobia) The butterflies are my faves... they don't bite.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting these.
Rosey
Wow! The moarch photos are stunning! Beautiful work..vibrant and rich!! I loved that! Great post!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to see the Monarchs! I haven't seen one yet this year. Your cats are very interesting :)
ReplyDeleteSweetbay,
ReplyDeleteKiller Monarch shots! We have been getting several Monarchs a day here for weeks. Your green cat is likely one of the sulphur butterflies, what was it eating?
Hi Sweet Bay,
ReplyDeleteYour caterpillars are cute, and I love the spider! I am missing the monarchs who used to live in my garden. I am glad you are getting to host some now.
This is early for our first snow. I hope we have some nice days yet. It seems like winter weather is coming earlier and staying later than it used to.
You have captured some amazing shots!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments everyone!
ReplyDeleteRob I think Lynx Spiders will eat anything they can catch. :) I too have read that they eat a lot of months, as well as bees and wasps.
Randy, you're right, those must be Sulfur Butterfly cats. They're feeding on Cassia alata, and we've had clouds of Sulfurs the last few months.
Absolutely great photos Sweetbay! that Green Lynx spider is really really cool!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove all the shots!!! The caterpillars and the spider are real cute! But the monarch on the Butterfly Bush is the Ultimate!! Superb!

I just love your large photos Sweetbay... The photo of the two caters together is beautiful and of course the Monarchs... You should be getting lots of them by now... any other year in the last twenty I might have said ... maybe I raised and released one of them... but not this year. Your spider picture is stellar! A winner... gosh even though I am freaked out by spiders that pictures draws me in with delight. Gorgeous! Carol
ReplyDeleteAmazing close-ups!!... Butterflies are really colourful even as babies. ~bangchik
ReplyDeleteAren't caterpillars amazing? And you as well for spotting them, especially the green one!

ReplyDeleteReally lovely photoes!! I think I'm falling in love, with caterpillars :)
ReplyDeleteWow! You are really a first class photographer!
ReplyDeleteOh Sweet Bay, how lucky you are to be on the flight path of the monarchs! Your shots of them are great and the pictures look wonderful on the blog too, hooray! Those catts are pretty, we have the fuzzy ones too, and I learned the hard way not to touch those hairs, they are stingers! Loved your gold and purple too, like royalty! :-)
ReplyDeleteFrances
What great pictures! The Monarchs are just so pretty. I wish they came this far west. The green spider is very neat looking too, I don't think I've seen a green spider before.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful butterfly shots. The green and blue caterpillar is unusual. That blue looks almost like tiny neon lights;)
ReplyDeleteMarnie
Wonderfull, wonderfull!
ReplyDeleteBjorg Nina
Your monarchs and other critters are beautiful...I especially like the spider...She is wicked green with those spikes! gail
ReplyDeleteI just love your photos...the monarchs are still active. That's nice to know, as I never saw a single one this whole year. I even planted things to attract them, and planted dill, fennel, etc., which the cats like to eat. What an interesting green spider. He does look 'pretty' but understandably not the best friend to our friendly insects!
ReplyDeleteI can almost feel the fuzziness of the Virginia Tiger Moth caterpillar. Amazing photo. I like thinking that maybe some of the monarchs that were in my yard earlier are now fluttering around in your garden.
ReplyDeleteooh! Love the caterpillars, fuzzy and smooth, and the wonderful butterflies. Did you get a new camera, or is it just that the margins are wider? :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic close-ups, Sweet Bay! The caterpillars are really interesting and different from what I have seen here all summer. But my favorite has to be the Monarchs, of course. They have been gone from my garden for a week or two, so I'm glad to see they are making their way safely to warmer climes.
ReplyDeleteAll these pictures are great shots. I really have a wonderful time looking at every one of them. The caterpillars are so colourful and beautiful. I am very sure it is because of your excellent photography skills.
ReplyDeletegreat pics...very nice
ReplyDeleteHello sweetbay; the little critters in their colourful tenure are absolutely beautiful and also must haves in my garden. I accept that they munch their way through certain plants. It is such a lovely sight when the butterflies dance.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures.
So crisp and clear and simply beautiful. That spider is a interesting character. The fuzzy little guy is very soft looking and you've captured him nicely.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, even spiders and caterpillars are gorgeous!
