I will admit it. This bird is so adorable that he can prompt anyone to scream "He's so cute!" when he starts his gurgling stutter and performs amazing acrobatics.
As the days get longer he will start singing more in earnest, rather than just short snatches here and there. Kinglets often linger until May before leaving for their breeding grounds in the northernmost US and Canada.
Beautiful pictures! I have got to know how you get such great close up shots. I need your camera! Your pictures always make my day. Have a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteThank you Southern Lady. I have a Pentax K10 and used a 55-300mm lens for these shots.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos...send me this bird!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they migrate thru my part of the country. I've never seen one.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, they are cute. That little red cap on his head is so sweet.
Great photos!
Marnie
This set of pictures brought a smile to my lips and tears to my eyes.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for a glimpse into this sweet little birds' life.
Hugs ~ FlowerLady
Sweetbay, I had to look this bird up in my Alberta bird book and they do summer here, especially in black spruce woods. Well, there just happens to be a large stand of black spruce in the ravine by my house that I walk through on the weekends. I would be thrilled to see one of these little guys. So adorable is right!
ReplyDeleteI haven't met this adorable bird before...He may compete with Mr Titmouse for that title! gail
ReplyDeleteYour are so right, they are adorable!!! You captured some really great pictures!!!!! Wish I could see one of these.
ReplyDeleteBirds do have character and always lovely to watch... ~bangchik
ReplyDeleteThey look just like a little ball of fluff and feathers. I love the understated dash of red ;^)
ReplyDeleteNow that is the sweetest bird that I've seen is such a long time!!Oh my look at it's wee little spot of red on his tiny head! Simply makes my heart sing! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a birder, but you're making me one... I now can't wait for each installment of your wonderful, informative, incredible photos. This guy is so sweet I can't stop watching him. I can almost hear his little song.
ReplyDeleteHe's so cute!! You're right I couldn't help but say it. I love the shots you got of the top of his head. And I love the shape of his little round body :)
ReplyDeleteI have only seen these little guys in pictures! Maybe one day I will see them with my own eyes but until then, I shall enjoy pics such as these. I love their little red crest and you captured them wonderfully for us today. Thanks for sharing this cute bird.
ReplyDeleteOh, what a beauty, and the bloodstein on his/hers forhead! We do not have that bird here. Thank you for your fantastic photos and for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are really amazing in their clarity. Sweet little bird and I love the little red patch on the head.
ReplyDeleteWhat a little beauty!
ReplyDeleteLieve groet, Madelief
Love the photo with his little red crest raised. Sure a cutie! Wonderful photos Sweetbay, really well done.
ReplyDeleteYes, noogie! I'm enjoying the photo from the last post that I'm using as my desktop background. I didn't realize how small kinglets are, though I guess I should have from the scale of the plant. P.S. What commercial?
ReplyDeleteMonica, the commercial is one that's playing with the Olympics, about the greatest spokesperson in the world who needs a blue phone.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea he was that tiny! You have a lot of great pictures showing his "ruby crown" here Sweet Bay. I would vote him the most adorable bird! Very cute indeed and you are doing an amazing job photographing songbirds!
ReplyDeleteWhat great pictures! I can't believe it is as small as a bumble bee when hatched. They grow fast! I like that red dot and will be on the lookout for them here.
ReplyDeleteHe's cute alright! Those are some terrific images Sweetbay.
ReplyDeleteHis cuteness factor is definitely way above a 10! I know I've said it before, Sweet Bay, but your photos of birds are just amazing. The last two almost look like paintings--the colors are so vibrant. Thanks for introducing me to this adorable little bird.
ReplyDeleteI agree! And, your photos have captured him beautifully. :)
ReplyDeleteOh sweetbay what a lovely little thing! one I'd like to take home with me. ;) Simply charming photos and the last two found me shouting 'ENCORE'! as he bowed for his performance. lol... thank you.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet! I love your fabulous large pictures!
ReplyDeleteI'll never forget when I saw my first Ruby-crowned Kinglet. It was performing in a huge bush in the yard of a home I have in Morro Bay, California. I wasn't sure what it was - a bushtit, a wren of some kind.. etc. And then, it turned its head so I caught a glimpse of that bright-red spot! My breath was taken away. I agree, it is a truly wonderful little bird!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of your Ruby-crown Kinglet Sweet Bay. Sweetest tiniest bird! Maybe this one will nest here this spring???
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right...the little kinglet is the cutest bird ever! Your photos are truly beautiful! You've captured his personality just right. I especially love the one where he's hanging upside down.
ReplyDeleteI've only seen the kinglet here twice, and one, sadly, was the victim of a barn cat. They're around, but not usually visible. I've heard that lovely song :)
I loved seeing your other birds too. As always, I envy you those bluebirds.
We have tons of the white stuff after our big winter storm. Our snowbanks are making me claustraphobic!
They are adorable! Awesome photos!
