Blooming Friday ~ Summer, then spring

Katarina of roses and stuff asked "If you were to pick one single photo to illustrate summer, which one would you pick?" This one, a view of a part of the big perennial bed looking toward the neighbor's pasture.

In real time, the garden is stirring awake now, with holdovers from this winter still going strong and true spring bloomers starting up too.

Winter Honeysuckle
The entire bush is so covered with flowers that it's
actually pretty; very hard to take a good picture of though.

Prunus mume

This is not a pussy willow (although I wish it was), just one of the wild willows that grows here.

In the big garden Iris reticulata and daffodils are opening up.

Daffodils from my husband's grandmother's garden, which are a very welcome sight every March.

Double Lent Lily ~ (Narcissus pseudonarcissus)

My favorites are the simple yellow ones.

Thank you to Katarina for hosting Blooming Friday.

  5. What a lovely treat once again. Sigh.
The winter honeysuckle is really nice and as always I love seeing your Prunus mume. I also love your iris, but I think my favorite picture of these you've posted today is your husband's grandmother's daffodils. They are wonderful.

    Happy Spring and Happy Gardening,

  8. It may have been difficult to get but that wide shot of the winter honeysuckle is fantastic. All of the pictures are for that matter. I believe you are farther along with spring than we are.--Randy

  12. gorgeous...thanks for sharing...those of us that are rather north are a bit jealous of all the beauty that you are already getting to see...Spring is just around the corner and I guess we will just have to patiently wait and enjoy the beauty of others gardens until then.

  13. I like the dafs with the double centers. IMHO, there can never be too many petals on a flower:)

Love the honeysuckle, I've never heard of it. I'm going to look it up and see if it's hardy here.

  14. The Winter Honeysuckle looks like a cloud of white has descended upon your tree. I love the delicate blooms. I cannot wait to see your summer garden.

  15. The iris reticulata are gorgeous! I went downtown yesterday and saw two pink trees in full bloom. They stopped me in my tracks because no other trees are blooming. All I could think was prunus mume and yours. I think that is what they were and they were wonderful. Must add some one of these days.

  16. Your picture of the Winter Honeysuckle is lovely! I love the single daffodils too. Mine aren't blooming yet. They're in too much shade( I never thought I'd say that about anything growing the back yard, lol)

I'll have to do my blooming Friday post tonight- no time this morning. Have a great weekend!

  17. I can't believe your prunus mume is still rockin' it out! My first Iris reticulata is up!!! Honeysuckles here (Lonicera spp: maackii, morrowii, tatarica, x bella, & xylosteum) are invasive, though they do have nice flowers. I generally find white flowers difficult to photograph. Have a great weekend!

  20. Love your first picture of the garden. That color of pink is my favorite with purple - kind of a magenta I guess. It brings out the purple tone of the pink. The trees looks great too. I guess it's safe to say spring has finally made it. Whoopie!!! My favorite time of year.
By the way - the yarrows you sent me are looking good!!! Thank you again and I can't wait to see them in bloom.

  24. Hi sweetbay; you have the most wonderful spring garden; glorious.
It is sometimes difficult to choose
a summer picture from the whole bunch. I like what you have chosen, actually the two colours are my favourite combination. Love rosemary for its wonderful attributes. Its contribution to cooking and herbal medicine. The
delicate picture of the flower is marvellous. Wonderful papery white honysuckle, I do not know this plant. The pictures of the bees collecting the pollen, fantastic, I had to laugh at their thick pollen stockings, they are so greedy! So many flowers and flowering trees are showing of their splendour in a generous way. Really great photography.

  29. I love the double center daffodils too Sweet Bay. I think that shows I like "over-the-top" stuff?!!!
Your place is looking incredible and the bee photos on your winter honeysuckle are simply amazing. Our bees are back in the hive. Warmer temperatures are supposed to return this week tho so hopefully they'll be back out.
I was catching up on your blog this morning and reading your previous post. I'm sure I've told you many times how peaceful and beautiful your property looks? Reading about all your future plans has made me wonder if I could really appreciate such a big space to garden in? I'm the type of person who likes to get after a project and get it done ~ I know, not the best way to "enjoy" the process. So I think ~ would I be driving myself crazy trying to garden and plant all that land or could I tackle it one thing at a time??? Hmmmm.
Thanks for missing me too. I wish we could have hung on to that great weather.

  30. Wonderful photos, Spring is such an amazing time. I cannot get over the shock of how quickly things suddenly begin growing; one minute no sign of life and the next we have leaves and flower buds!

    Such an exciting time :)

  31. Sweetbay, You take such splendid photos and always capture the best bee shots...They fly away before I can get anywhere near them!

Your prunus mume is the energizer bunny of flowering. Beautiful and long lasting....I must get one and that perfect blue sky to go with it!

Spring has sprung and your daffs are looking gorgeous, as are the prunus mume and winter honeysuckle. Love that gorgeous blue of the irises too.
    Happy first day of spring!

  33. Yes the Honeysuckle is notorious for bad photos, but you managed to get good ones - nice of the bees to help.
