Winter 2009

After going back through my pictures to my calendars for DH's workplace, I decided to make four little movies for retrospective. This is the first, for winter. The pictures make it look like we have snow all winter, which of course we don't, but every time we get snow it's a big deal.

  1. There are some really lovely shots. Your Prunus mume is very pretty.

I like this idea. The pink blossoms are just lovely.

  4. I'm amazed, what a lovely flower, your Japanese Apricot / Chinese plum, never seen it before, lovely pink flowers, looks a bit lonely in the cold climate. Is there snow now, over at your place? In any case, enjoy your coffee, the best drink to have now when it's cold I think. Wish you all the best for the year 2010 :)

  5. It's a very beautiful collection of shots, I love flowering trees. Your house looks so gorgeous in the previous post, just what I imagined our's will look like when we move up country one day.

I tried to make a U Tube clip for the New Year's wish post. But no matter what, it just wouldn't work for me. This is inspiring, maybe I will need to work on it again.

  6. I have to admit the scenes of the snow-covered landscape are so pretty, and your house at the end of the lane looks so inviting in these winter scenes. The only thing missing is the smoke coming from the chimney!

Lovely blooms--were all of these blooming last January??

  7. Thank you for your comments everyone!

Janet and Noelle, thank you. I love seeing the P. mume flowers every winter.

Thank you Di, we don't get much snow here so we always think it's beautiful.

Hello Mia, and thank you. No, no snow here, but it's cold here now for us, with daytime highs of 0 C lately. We don't get snow every year, but maybe at the end of this week... !

Thank you MBD and I'm glad you stopped by. Did you use Picasa? After downloading the photos I used the "youtube" button that creates the movie and then automatically uploads it to youtube.

Thank you Rose. I agree about the chimney smoke -- that would have been the perfect touch! We do have a working fireplace, just no fire going when I took the picture. The P. mume was blooming last Jan. Depending on the weather, it blooms anywhere from Dec. to Feb.

  8. Lovely movie!! Wish all movies made me smile the way this one did :-)

I think I've mentioned it before, but I have to say, your pines are gorgeous!

    Thanks for putting this together.

  9. It took a while for the video to load, but it was worth it! Love all the shots. (Don't worry; that's the fault of my computer being old and slow (and Norton doing something in the background), not your blog! As reported earlier, I do love that Prunus mume!

  10. Hi Sweet Bay~~ I especially like the photos of the snow, trees in the distance and the road bisecting the landscape. Reminds me of a classic Jigsaw puzzle. Nice! You've got some serious photography smarts.

  11. The snow does make everything look so magical. All lovely and that prunus is a beauty queen. Stay warm and watch out if you do have Alberic. I don't know how to tell for sure, other than the extraordinary growth of the canes in one season. When ours was cut down and dug out, one cane was measured at 36 feet, all new growth and typical.

  13. When the sun is reflecting off the snow, it makes for a very bright day, doesn't it?

You're a movie maker now. Luv it!

  14. A lovely show of your winter garden. Love the snaps of the gentle flowers who are brave enough to battle the cold. The house looks very comfortable in its snowy surrounds.

  15. Your flowers are so beautiful, and your land with snow is spectacular, too.

  16. So many pretty shots! What are the purple flowers? They almost look like a geranium, but I'm guessing they are something else. I just love the color of them.

  17. Thank you for your visits and comments!

Frances when my mystery white rose blooms I'll definitely compare it to Alberic. I'll be happy if it puts out 35'+ canes! lol I have about a 100' of fenceline for roses to grow on. In addition, I have Mermaid, which makes anything else look like a pussycat!! :)

There is a hedge of these mystery white roses behind a bank and tiny shopping center in Chapel Hill. They are beautiful in bloom, they're just covered.

Catherine those flowers Blue Speedwell, Veronica umbrosa 'Georgia Blue'. They're from the country of Georgia.
Some years it starts blooming in December and blooms until the weather heats up in May. It's a bloom machine as long as the weather is not hot.

  18. Your photos are always so gorgeous and the video sure shows them off nicely. I find your home most charming too. That snow is a lot for your area! Happy New Year to you!

  19. It seems strange to me to see snow at your place Sweet Bay ~ I always think your climate is so mild I don't expect it! I would gladly send you more if I could. :-)

I wish I could come over and cajole you into letting me clip a few prunus branches for a vase on my coffee table. I think that would be a most lovely centerpiece and would lift my winter weary spirits. Your cactus is blooming its head off! Very pretty!
