  1. Try as I will I can't get a pic of the few butterflies in my yard. Fluttering out of range each time I get close they leave me muttering in French.

    Good shots.

  4. These are beautiful captures and quite a quest! They always sit on some flower that is awkward to get to and then they fly to another spot. I find them quite a challenge to photograph! Beautiful post...

  14. It has certainly been a busy butterfly time!! Your photos are great. I haven't noticed many on my sedum, mostly hitting the lantana next to the sedum!

  15. I do love the swallowtails, and the eastern tiger is a beauty. I'm a little confused because I didn't think it was as far west as CA...?? I also like the black swallowtail. Aw, heck, I like all butterflies!

  16. These guys are always around here too. In fact, they are the only caterpillars I've seen this year and I wish I would have more types but I do love these ones.

  18. Beautiful stunning photos! I am sad because there are no black swallowtail caterpillars in my herb bed this year. I am still checking each day but I think it is too late.

  19. I enjoyed my visit with the magical wings! I've not had too many butterflies in my garden this year...could it be that my novice master gardener (hubby)only for this year..cut away my butterfly bush!!
EEKKK! Oh well next year I'll be healed and I will take over the supervision..Beautiful post!

  26. Those are lovely photos. The butterfly has perfect wings. The TS's are one of my favorites. Haven't seen many this summer. Maybe next year the numbers will be back up again.

  27. If I ever get around to posting again, I have a what I thought was a nice butterfly photo. After seeing your nice swallowtail photos....I'm not feeling so good about mine. I need a new camera, photography lessons, more patience and many more butterflies.

  28. One of the reasons I garden is to have these flying friends buzzing all over my garden. Awesome, right!

  31. We usually see lots of swallowtails too, but not this summer. I was wondering where they were. Now I know :)
Wonderful pictures and I love that sedum. It's similar to Matrona, which I had in my sedum dish garden the first year, but it didn't winter over.
