I like this combination of Phlox 'David', Buddleia 'Royal Red', and Cleome that grows next to the house. 'David' is such a wonderful wedding cake white and goes with everything.
I added 'Felicia' to the bed in front of the horse paddock last year, and wondered if it would lose its foliage the way 'Ballerina' does here. Thankfully it doesn't. The flowers are wonderfully fragrant.
This zinnia is a 2nd generation descendant from a pack of 'Violet Queen' seeds that I bought at the grocery store. The flowers are now mostly singles, but have the same bright magenta color as the original.
I still have some daylilies blooming here and there.
I bought 'Blush Noisette' for its celebrated fragrance and it is divine. I love the pink fuzzy round buds, which are just as pretty as the flowers.
Thank you to Katarina at roses and stuff for hosting Blooming Friday.
It is great your zinnias self seed. I hope mine do some day. Or did you save the seeds?
ReplyDeleteI liked your comment on Randy and Jamie's blog about the serrissa foetida. A neat plant I've not heard of before. Do you grow it? And if so, have you posted on it? I'm just full of questions this evening.
I love phlox too.I love your Blush Noisette rose -I will have to look for one if it is hardy to our zone 5.
ReplyDeleteOur phlox are just starting and our daylilies are in full bloom now.
Carolyn
'Prissy Frills' looks fabulous and your roses look so healthy! The pink rugosa that I have from you is blooming again but the flowers are far from pristine- even when they first open.
ReplyDeleteTina my zinnias self seed and I save the seeds to replant in areas that I mulch over the winter. I have a crop of zinnias at the edge of the driveway right now. lol
ReplyDeleteI have wanted Serissa after seeing it at the JC Raulston Arboretum years ago, and I have a start of it now -- a gardening friend gave me a rooted cutting that is now a foot high and is going into the ground this fall. There's something about Serissa -- it's dainty and refined, and the sprays of white flowers amplify that effect.
Carolyn from what I have read Blush Noisette is hardy to zone 6b, so I don't know if it would survive your winters unless you get a lot of snow cover.
Shari I took that picture before the JBs got there. Is that what's affecting your rose? It seems the JBs are slowing down at last now -- the roses are often lasting a day or 2 before the beetles get to them.
Sweet Bay I love your single zinnia more than its double parent.. and your buds of 'Blush Noisette' are as lovely as the full blown blooms. I am so impressed how your recall all the names of your plantings. Alas, I am so bad at keeping records... and remembering ... well that is becoming a true task! Happy Almost August!
ReplyDeleteI meant to add that I love your Prissy Frills and that Meadow Beauty ... not sure I have ever seen it... lovely.
ReplyDelete'David' really does look good with anything, just such a pure white!
ReplyDeleteThat 'Blush Noisette' is just too sweet, I love it!
Lovely photos - especially of the Daylilies. Prissy Frills is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteMeadows beauty was a sweet one. I´ve made a link on my blog to a date with explination (in swedish) of the ruin.
ReplyDeleteThe rosebuds are as pretty as the rose itself, indeed. I love the bright colours of Phlox, they haven´t started here yet. Only petty they remind me about autumn..
ReplyDeleteSweet Bay, I love your phlox/swallowtail combination:) Your blooms are beautiful! Meadow Beauty looks so pretty and your fragrant rose sounds/looks wonderful!
ReplyDeletesweetbay, your blooms are gorgeous. I think that last rose is so soft and delicate. Your Phlox - both David and Robert are great. I just started having Phlox in my garden and wish I had more!! Great photos!
ReplyDeleteMany lovely flowers in your garden. The daylilies have so many beautiful colors. Roses is my top favorite, the soft color and shape. /Amanda-Fotomix. This week on a other blog.
ReplyDeleteSweetbay-
ReplyDeleteSeeing all your beautiful Phlox makes want it even more than I already did. LOL --Randy
Lovely pictures. I do like the Zinnia as I am a fan of any flower that is magenta. I like the intensity of the colour.
ReplyDeleteMy David is just beginning to bloom. It reminds me of snow capped mountains when it's in full flower;) I like your combo of David and cleome--will try to remember that for next year.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful daylilies. I'll bet the lavender shades look good with almost every other flower.
Marnie
Sweet Bay your flowers are all so beautiful. I think Robert looks cool because of the blue tone in it! I also noticed that your 'Blush Noisette' buds look beautiful next to the bloom.
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned wondering if the Soapwort would grow where you are. Even in our 109 degree weather this week it looks fresh and untouched. I don't think anything can kill it. I'll throw some in with the Irises and you can give it a try.
My favorite is the white Flox. Lovely
ReplyDeleteLovely photos of beatiful flowers. The phloxes are my favourites especially the white ones.
ReplyDeleteSusanne
Lovely photoes. Phloxes have become one of my favourites since last year.
ReplyDeleteBirgitta
David is a very handsome gentleman! Love the pure white. And your daylily Prissy Frills made me want more daylilies. Such a beauty! I'm glad Felicia behaves well - she's a darling!
ReplyDeleteKatarina
Love Prissy Frills', newly opened!
ReplyDeleteEven here some butterflies, it been to cold here in sweden so not a lot of butterflies this year here, MB
I just looked at your blooms zoomed on my computer. I am so pumped! I'm partial to the daylilies, but the phlox and others are pretty, too.
ReplyDeleteI love single zinnias, and the white phlox. If you had just said "white phlox" to me I would have thought "ho hum" but seeing it it really is vibrant, especially as you've paired it. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Raingardener, and thank you everyone for your comments!
ReplyDeleteLovely little rose buds! I love taking pictures of flowers, there is something so delicate and inviting about them.
