This spring, for the first time in 7 years, poppies bloomed in my garden. 'Mother of Pearl' Shirley poppies. Some years I forgot to order the seeds; in other years they didn't come up. They started to feel like my white whale. Had I actually ever grown poppies? If I didn't have photographic evidence I would think I had imagined them.

ReplyDeleteIt is so wonderful to see a post from you. May you and your hubby have a great 2017 ~ FlowerLady
So pretty! For the past several years, I have been saving poppy seeds and scattering them over the snow in late February. That works well for me, but it means the poppies come up wherever they finally sink into the earth, and sometimes I have them in the strangest places in the garden. Good to see you posting again, Sweet Bay--Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHi Sweetbay, so nice to see that you have picked up blogging, again!
ReplyDeleteWow, these poppies are so beautiful and delicate. I haven't heard of this variety of poppies before I read your post, strange...
Anyway, I hope you will have them again in your garden this spring! Thanks for sharing!
Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year 2017!
Warm regards,
Christina
I hope spring will bring you a wonderful display of poppies this year, Sweetbay. I struggle with getting blooms from California poppies here but, with more rain than we've had in a long while, I'm also hoping for a better turn-out this year.
ReplyDeleteOooo, they are gorgeous! I've never grown Poppies, but one of my friends has them out in front of her house every summer. They're definitely photogenic, and your captures are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour poppies are gorgeous. A spring garden wouldn't be a spring garden without them. I have never started Shirley poppies from seed but those colors haver me thinking-Get to the nursery right away.
ReplyDeleteI've had a terrible time growing Shirley poppies. Maybe one or two seeds would turn into plants and bloom.Yours look great.

Hi, Sweetbay, these are gorgeous! I have always admired poppies. It is good to see a post from you again! I hope you are doing well and that your garden, always one of my favorites, is prospering!
ReplyDeleteDear Sweetbay,
ReplyDeleteI really like your poppies! These pastel colours are so beautiful. I also sowed some poppy seeds last spring, but was not very successful. Only one plant made it and unfortunately the colour was a very bright red that did not fit so well with the colour scheme of my garden. I sowed some poppies again this year and hope I will be more lucky this time. Hopefully my poppies will look as beautiful as yours!
Best wishes,
Lisa
It's so nice to see you posting again!
ReplyDeletePoppies are my favorite plants. I have good times with them and I have not good times with them. Some varieties grow better than others. Your poppies are beautiful!
