Sayonara, Sweet Pea

The Wisteria had to get zapped by frost this year, since it bloomed so beautifully last year. Typically we only get blooms from it every other year.

Hope to see you next year!

  1. It is fading away in our area. I want some in my garden so badly. I just love that purple grape looking bloom as it brings back memories from my childhood. We had one growing up a power pole in our backyard. The bees loved it....

  2. Mine flowers each year but I do prune it hard every August. I am forced to do this because of space restrictions. Luckily I trained it horizontally so it is easily accessible. I don't know if that is why it flowers so well.
They are beautiful flowers and so fragrant.

  5. The flowers are a pretty color but beware ~ wisteria's a very rambunctious vine! We grows ours as a shrub that we mow around, needed as it sends out long runners in all directions.

  6. Too bad it got zapped, I always hate when that happens to a plant. Great idea to grow it as a shrub. My sister finally had to get rid of hers once it decided to try taking over her house no matter how much she pruned it.

Seen a lot already in bloom. But we did just get a freeze. Sorry you have to wait another year.

  8. Hi Sweetbay, I have not had problems publishing photos. I just email them to myself and then save into a folder then download to blogger when I am writing the post. I have never been to Picasa. I know that many love wordpress and I am thinking of changing too but cannot bear the amount of time it will take. Sorry about your wisteria! That is a gorgeous shot.

  9. Blooming wisteria is so beautiful. A shame it won't be coming through for you this year, but we'll hope for a good showing next spring.

  11. Same here, Sweetbay, we have a white one that blooms every now and then. They're invasive here, but, they smell divine and make me smile ...gail

  13. Your post was interestsing and the comments, too. I know so little about Wisteria, didn't know they could be so invasive.

  14. I wonder why they sometimes bloom and then don't. They're starting to bloom over here so for three weeks or so they'll look glorious.

  15. Thank you everyone for your comments. Rob I can't wait to see the wisteria bloom in your part of the world. It probably looks extra beautiful against the backdrop of the golden stone buildings. Our wisteria is in a low-lying place and it often gets drawn out by early warm days then bam, we get a frost and the flowers are goners. The buds were just opening this year.

Ah well, the thing about spring is that there are so many other things about to burst onto the scene!
