Blooming Friday ~ still Prunus mume

After 7 weeks, the Prunus mumes are still blooming! The remaining buds are reluctant to open because of the continued cold, but a few on the P. mume in the big perennial bed are opened just enough to release their perfume. The fragrance is spicier than that of the tree by the mailbox.

The tree by the mailbox still has flowers, although it's not as full as it was before.

Thank you to Katarina at roses and stuff for hosting Blooming Friday.

  5. Hi Sweet Bay~~ Dazzling photos! My pink flower fix has been met, thanks to you!

I'm glad you posted these photos because I had a sneaking suspicion I was seeing two street side P. mume trees in town. My next garden [?] will have one of these beauties.

  11. So beautiful! I think I enjoy the photos of the early blooming trees the best of all because I don't like being out in the cold to see them much. I hope you can enjoy this "warm" snap we're fixing to have:)

  14. It seems so early for them to be blooming. Do you have pollinators already.

What I wouldn't give for just a whiff of their fragrance.

  18. Thank you for your comments everyone!

Rose due to the weather and other things going on, I was only able to participate for one day. I don't have feeders set up and my binoculars (the 4th set in 20 years -- I tend to go through them) are useless, so it's difficult to get a good count from the house.

Lillabeth the P. mume is everlasting this year!

littlewing -- yes, finally a dry and relatively warm spell of weather. :)

Marnie, the normal bloom time for this tree in my area is anywhere from Dec. to Feb. When it's warm enough for the flowers to open up it's also warm enough for the bees to come out, although freezes often catch the flowers before they can set fruit.

Madelief I have brought cut branches inside, when I was afraid that cold would cut down even the buds. (So far in 6 or so years that has not yet happened.) They are outstanding in a vase.
