Blooming Friday ~ Jewel

"Long ago, before I had ever seen a diamond, I read about them and I tried to imagine what they would be like. I thought they would be lovely glimmering purple stones. When I saw a real diamond in a lady's ring one day I was so disappointed I cried. Of course, it was very lovely but it wasn't my idea of a diamond." ~ Anne of Green Gables

Like many young girls I was a fan of the Green Gables series growing up and I have to say I am in agreement with Anne on this topic, even if my own engagement ring is a clear diamond.

When I think of a jewel in the garden, I think of colors that are saturated and translucent at the same time.

Clear, glowing, rich color.

Brazilian Blue Sage

The standards of this iris shimmer like the depths of imperial topaz.

Imagine what a beautiful ring or necklace an amethyst of this shade would make, but it could never be more beautiful than these iris flowers.

'Jesse's Song'

Happy Friday, and join Katerina at roses and stuff for more Blooming Fridays from all over the world.

  2. I agree with you about diamonds - too boring - though I would not refuse one if it was offered :-)
Jewels mean colour to me and your post is certainly full of wonderful colour.
    Have a good weekend.

  3. The word 'jewel' definitely brings to mind deep rich purple shade. The irises have that for sure!

  11. I love how you began this post...so touching and inspiring. I'd rather wear flowers than diamonds, although diamonds do last longer ;-)

  17. Like you, I've always thought diamonds were rather overrated. I'll take color anytime, especially the jewel tones shown in your garden. I admire 'Jesse's Song' every time you show a photo of it--it has to be one of the most beautiful irises I've seen!

  19. My birthstone is diamond, so I'm a little partial to them but like Anne, I prefer purple anything and you always give us the best purple blooms!

  20. These are lovely shades of violet and blue...so bright and outstanding. I love diamonds because they catch the tints of other colors, but amethyst is another that I could not live without.

  21. Hello there! Emeralds and Amethysts! I imagine a big ol' emerald on my finger:) One day...if I'm lucky! For now, it's fun to color with plants until that time comes:) I've never read Anne before....I've heard a lot of it. Maybe when the reading calms down a bit, I can give this series a closer look. Everyone who talks about it has a great respect for the story.
